Had the same experience. Shotgun changes how you play the class so much that I now think the sandvich is poorly designed. Also GRU is a great combat tool if your opponent is cornered.

i think the reason the sandwich is consistently picked over the shotgun isn't necessarily because its best for the heavy. there is no other option for portable instant health for a medic other than heavy's secondary slot, and because of how important medic is to the game, that makes the sandwich possibly more useful to the team than the heavy himself.

I'm not sure about the other 4 heavy mains, but this heavy main is thankful for your service to the cause. I think the one thing you missed out on was how how important having a heavy sitting on a cart in payload maps is. More often than not, I'll be the only one consistently moving the cart forward and if the other team doesn't have a good sniper I can go a lot of rounds without dying. It leaves the rest of the team free to push forward and create the space for me to ride my bumper car in front of the cart :)

My ideal heavy update would include adding an extra item slot, and 2 new types of weapons in particular. Make sandvich and shotgun both equippable with a lunchbox/utility slot. Since sandvich is an unlock, the stock item would be an ammo pack that could be thrown down for others on a recharge, and go through an animation to fill your own. This alone adds a ton of more interesting gameplay, being able to eat sandvich and also use shotgun. A minigun replacement that is an artillery cannon thing that works a bit like the dragons fury. Rather than tracking, you hit sequential shots that deal high damage when you land them. It has good accuracy and can hit for like 50-75 damage per shot if you're very close, but it has decent falloff so you can't just snipe people. It plays sorta like a rapidfire shotgun that shoots a slug instead of pellets, though it still slows you down when firing. Maybe there's a very minimal spinup though. I've seen custom weapons gameplay with something similar to this. Second minigun replacement: a pair of Hussar Wings that give heavy increased move speed, super high jump height, and reduced fall damage. Along with adding a few more interesting shotguns, this would empower full fat scout or melee heavy gameplay. These two are the main ones, but here's some others: A laser beam minigun weapon that increases damage rate the longer it's hitting a person, and has a maximum functional range. Outside close range and approaching medium, it doesn't hit that far. And a chainsaw with a fuel amount as ammo. It only works at close range, melee and slightly further. but it doesn't slow you down when using. The damage is insane but the fuel runs out fast. Only close combat with these ones. A minigun That pushes you back when you fire. Good for mobility but pushes you back from your targets, giving more falloff.

Nah but in all seriousness, nice series dude, it would be nice seeing you try all classs in this manner. funnily enough i also found myself using this loadout, exept i use GRU or FoS. I liked to fat scout and then surprise people with the tomi when they assumed that i wouldn't use it. Another small thing about using the shotgun is that you can surf damage a lot easier, so rockets to your feet become a nice movility option and the large hp pool makes it viable for longer.
